Living in a Hobbit House on the Fraser River in Delta

Anyone interested in the floating home is encouraged to make an appointment and advised not to visit the property without an estate agent present. This cautionary advice may or may not be given due to the possible unexpected appearance of the wizard Gandalf.

So how serious are you about buying a home? Serious enough to think of living by the water, in a cozy enclave that could be Bilbo Baggins, the home of the Hobbit?

The price is tempting for a houseboat located on River Road in Ladner along the Fraser River. It’s listed for just $259,000 (with $240 annual taxes) has a large deck with views of the North Shore mountains and, as Real Estate Weekly describes it, “a parade of wildlife…ducks, herons, seals and otters.

“The original owner was a wood genius…hand-carved exterior shingles and barn wood kitchen cabinets,” adds the real estate agent, noting that it looks like a hobbit.

In addition to mortgage fees, there are also marina mooring fees of approximately $1,400 per month. Pets are okay, but kids aren’t at home 566 square feet.

Anyone interested in the floating home is encouraged to make an appointment and advised not to visit the property without an estate agent present. This cautionary advice may or may not be given due to the possible unexpected appearance of the wizard Gandalf; or the possibly saucy parties that can occur with the unexpected arrivals of the 13 dwarves as they return to Middle-earth.
